Yena and Andrew were one of the first couples I met after moving to New York. I remember being like „WOW, they chose ME as their wedding photographer!“ Why? Because Yena is one of New York’s talented florists. With her company By Yena Designs she decorates the most amazing events on a regular basis. She worked with many amazing wedding photographers before so choosing me was really an honour!
They wanted to get married at a luxury hotel in Manhattan. After checking out many of them they chose to make it a St Regis wedding. And so we started with the Getting Ready on their wedding day at a glamorous suite at the St Regis New York. The wonderful wedding dress in mermaid style had a million layers of tulle (I counted ; )), partly embroidered with crystals. It was the perfect fit for Yena’s style – a mix of classic, elegant and modern. She completed her bridal look with earrings from Henry Bendel and some cool silver Via Spiga heels. The bridesmaid dresses in different shades of purple matched the wedding colours, of course.
It was a really hot and humid summer day in NYC and so we decided to keep most of our couple photo shooting inside. When planning a St Regis wedding this is luckily an option as the interior is exquisit. Yena was quite nervous as she was not used standing in front of a camera, as many of my brides. I am pretty sure I could take away some of her nervousness and in the end the photos we took did not only impress Yena, but were also published many times by wedding blogs. Even recently the St Regis shared them on their Instagram.
The boys had 2-3 more drinks and off we went to St. Francis Xavier. This church in the center of Manhattan could not have been more impressing. Up to this day I am still sometimes blown away what wonderful interiors are behind all of those facades in NYC.
Obviously the flowers on this day were absolutely gorgeous. Yena designed all bouquets and table decorations herself the day before the wedding. The ballroom looked like a dream that night. Yena & Andrew were pure happiness and you could feel that their families were absolutely enjoying the festivities, too. And then … they got the chance to cut their wedding cake with a sword. I mean, who doesn’t want to do that?! Bow ties and jackets were off, and everyone danced the night away like there was no tomorrow.
PS: After their St Regis wedding you should also check out their cool engagement photos. As engagement photographer New York we got to shoot at Meatpacking District with some really awesome backgrounds.
